Today I leave Melbourne for the Americalands on a 6-week adventure. I'll be in San Francisco for 10 days, then in New York for about a month, and I might even hit up Boston for a few days somewhere in there. My sister, Naomi, also just resigned from her job and bought a ticket to join me in NY for the whole month. We're calling this the #yolotour2k14.
The past few times I've been to America, I've shopped pretty thoughtlessly - you would too if you were in a land of cheap clothes and favourable exchange rates (note: not the case with exchange rates this time round). However, this time I've set myself a challenge: I'm only going to buy clothes from ethically certified brands, markets or secondhand clothing stores.
The great thing is that America is the land of some of my favourite markets and secondhand stores. In fact, I've bought some of my favourite and most trusty pieces stateside. I'm real keen to hit up Haight-Ashbury in SF again, as well as my favourite market IN THE WORLD (literally), the Brooklyn Flea Market on a snowy weekend in NY.
I'll show you what I'm purchasing as I go along, so check back every once in a while into this very space that you're staring at right now. Plus, seeing as I'm super snap-happy, I'll show you around SF and NY too so that you can pretend (and I can pretend for my own I'm-an-extrovert-and-need-to-leech-energy-off-of-other-people reasons) that you're there with me. I'll also try my hardest to avoid resorting to taking selfies. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the general Interwebs will alert you when there's something to see.
See you on the other side of the flight! #yolotour2k14!
